About Our Client
Our client is a multinational insurance company, headquartered in Europe, with over 120 locations around the world. Generating billions in annual revenue, the company has over 120,000 employees worldwide. More than 100 million customers in over 50 countries put their trust in the capabilities and expertise of this provider when it comes to indemnity insurance, life insurance, savings solutions, and asset management. The organization also has a strong social impact focus with many initiatives to support communities around the world.
The Challenge
With a large client-base and geographic footprint across a multilingual country, the insurance company had a significant marketing communications operation. In addition, defensive registrations of its domains were increasingly necessary to prevent fraud and protect customers.
This required hundreds of original domains and associated redirects, all of which needed to be managed and measured. Back in 2010, the insurance company’s regional office started managing its own redirect infrastructure in-house, writing original code, creating logical rules for the redirections and – critically - devoting human resources to the work. With this new volume, the Domain Manager for this region suddenly had a lot on his plate to manage – and less time and resources for other projects. What the insurance company truly lacked was an effective solution to a highly technical problem.
Over time, the complexity of the work and variety of use cases made things increasingly challenging for the provider. The insurance company underwent a major re-branding and introduced a “one domain” strategy that needed to be accounted for in their redirect management. Basically, all domains need to point to a specific domain. And every domain they owned had to point somewhere intuitive once it was created. That created additional management requirements. Plus, when a piece of marketing collateral was printed, there was a chance for an error. A single character typed incorrectly in the URL on a print document (like an insurance bill) would create the need for another redirect.
Over the years, it became impossibly time-consuming and costly to devote both human and technology resources to handling hundreds of redirects. The scope of the work simply couldn’t be supported by an internal build-it-yourself system. The insurance company needed a solution that would automate and simplify the management of their redirects – and reduce costs. Enter, urllo.
The Result
In 2019, when its internally-built platform had reached its end-of-life, the insurance company chose urllo’s Enterprise plan, which has fundamentally altered the way it manages their redirects. It gives the company full control, confidence in execution, detailed visibility and significant business savings.
The most important element of this partnership for the insurance company has been the cost savings – including reducing redirect management costs by 65% after moving to the urllo Enterprise solution (the company previously hosted all its servers in its own data centers). And those were just the hard costs. The implementation and management team has experienced an immense reduction of workload since choosing urllo. Now they have more time to focus on other business initiatives and improvements.
urllo has also enabled the team by providing access to far more functionality than they could ever have plausibly built on their own, alongside enterprise-grade security, 100% uptime (due to urllo's multiple global points of presence and providers) and a single, centralized place to manage domains.
No matter how many redirects and domains are created (the company currently has 500+ domains managed with urllo), redirect management is now simple and straightforward. Plus, the built-in automated SSL certificate-issuing function hugely simplifies administrative work and further reduces costs.
urllo’s advanced analytics suite has also revealed some unexpected insights about the company’s domains and security. urllo helped their team identify hacking attempts and patterns across many owned domains based on the analytics data accessed within the Enterprise plan. That’s just one of many insights the analytics suite is now providing.
